Where to drink coffee and what to expect

Jávea has a solid café scene for a town its size. This article is split into 2 sections:

  1. I just need caffeine
  2. I’d like something better

I just need caffeine

There are many cafés (“cafeterias”) in all parts of Jávea - the port, the old town, and Arenal. Most open at 8am. Just look around as you leave your place and pick one where the vibe feels good. Or do a quick search on Google Maps.

In most traditional cafés, expect to be served very dark roasted and very hot coffee (burn your tongue hot). If you want milk foam in these places and want to fit in, order “café con leche” instead of cappuccino. Cappuccino will most likely be the same as “café con leche” but with cocoa on top and significantly pricier, or you will get a latté.

If you leave for the ride very early and didn’t have coffee at home or at a hotel (or you want another one), then Café Gourmand | Pastelería francesa opens at 7am. Good pastry and breakfast. The coffee is capsule Nespresso as of writing.
