How to get there

Airports

Two airports serve Jávea at roughly equal distance and travel time:

• Alicante (ALC) — 1h 15 min by car in normal conditions. The more commonly used option, with broader international connections, especially from northern Europe. Direct routes from UK, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, Scandinavia.

• Valencia (VLC) — 1h 15–30 min by car. Fewer direct routes from northern Europe but better connected for Spanish domestic flights and some long-haul connections via Madrid.

Getting from the airport

• Car hire is the most practical option. Both airports have all major hire companies. Pick up a car at the airport and you have full flexibility for the whole stay.

• Taxi/transfer — private transfers from ALC to Jávea run around €80–120 depending on the service. Useful for a solo trip or small group without bikes.

• Public transport — though enviromentally friendly, I don’t recommend it for getting to Jávea from Valencia unless you don’t mind a 3-hour trip by bus and multiple transfers. From Alicante airport the situation is better, with the trip lasting around 2 hours and some direct connections.

Getting around Jávea

The town is spread across three zones — old town (Pueblo), port, and Arenal beach. For a training camp, a bike covers all of them. A hire car becomes useful if you want to:

• Access the Dénia 50 m pool or athletics track
• Explore restaurants and beaches outside Jávea
• Make airport transfers without relying on private taxis

Travelling with a bike

Flying with a bike requires a bike bag or hard case. Make sure it fits your transfer to and from the airport.
